Kiltane review: cashmere gifts, delivery and returns to check

Visit the Kiltane website

A scarf is a pleasingly compact present, right up until you start wondering about the colour, the fabric and whether the recipient can return it. Kiltane puts cashmere knitwear and accessories at the centre of its shop, with plenty of gift-browsing appeal. The useful buying questions sit just beyond the lovely pictures: what does the full basket cost, how quickly might it arrive, and which returns rules apply?

This is a desk-based review of Kiltane’s UK website, checked on 4 November 2026. We have not bought, worn or washed its products, tested delivery or contacted customer care. Prices and policy details below reflect the pages reviewed and may change.

What is Kiltane worth browsing for?

The website has women’s and men’s clothing, scarves, accessories and homeware, alongside gifting and personalisation sections. Its current On Wild Waters collection includes cable knits, argyle jumpers, cardigans, hoods and small neck ties. That makes it a useful starting point if you already want a knitted gift or a particular wardrobe piece, rather than a general department-store browse.

The collection also shows why it pays to compare shapes, not just colours. A small neck tie, a skinny scarf and a jumper serve different purposes even when all carry a cashmere description. Open the individual page, check its material information, size and care guidance, and ask for any missing measurements before ordering. We cannot judge softness, fit, warmth or resistance to pilling from photographs or customer reviews.

What do the prices mean for a small order?

On our check, the collection listed a Cable Cashmere Neck Tie at £59, a Cable Skinny Cashmere Scarf at £149 and a women’s Cable Cashmere Polo Jumper at £259. These are examples from this collection, not the limits of the whole shop’s price range or a claim that Kiltane is cheapest.

The red neck tie’s product page also showed £59 and described its material as 100% cashmere. An optional dust bag and cashmere comb added £4. With the stated £4.99 UK standard delivery charge, that gives an illustrative total of £63.99 without the extra, or £67.99 with it, assuming the same price and delivery service remain available at checkout.

That is the number to compare with your budget. Adding another item merely to cross a free-delivery threshold can turn a modest postage charge into a much larger purchase. For a higher-priced garment, decide whether the cut, measurements and care requirements suit you before treating the lack of standard postage as a saving.

How much is UK delivery, and how fast is it?

Kiltane’s delivery page lists DHL UK standard delivery at £4.99, or free on orders over £100, with an approximate two-to-three-business-day timeframe. The wording is “over”, so do not assume an order of exactly £100 qualifies; check the basket.

The same table lists a £6.99 next-working-day service, qualified “Mon–Thurs”. However, the surrounding guidance says Kiltane aims to dispatch standard and express orders on the next working day after an order is placed, giving Monday-to-Tuesday and Friday-to-Monday examples. That leaves an important distinction between placing an order, dispatch and delivery. If you need something tomorrow, confirm the current cut-off and arrival expectation with customer care before paying for the faster option.

Orders are described as shipping from its Edinburgh warehouse, operating Monday to Friday excluding UK public holidays. Kiltane says it emails a tracking number after dispatch and warns that busy periods can take longer. These are published service estimates, not timings we have tested. Check the available service and cost for your actual address at checkout.

How do returns and exchanges work?

The online returns page says ordinary returns and instant exchanges are accepted up to 28 days from receipt, with items unused, tagged and in their original condition. The Royal Mail return route is listed at £3.50. Start through Kiltane’s linked portal rather than sending a parcel without the requested details.

A free in-store drop-off route is also described, but it still starts in the portal. The page says refunds are processed once the item reaches the warehouse. Online orders cannot be exchanged directly in store; requested instant exchanges are shipped to the original address. For postal exchanges, Kiltane says the replacement can be sent once the original is in transit. We have not tested how quickly that happens.

For refunds, the separate refund policy gives a processing target of seven working days after receipt and inspection, excluding shipping costs. It also says a partial return can invalidate a promotional offer, changing the amount refunded for items kept. Ask for the calculation before relying on a particular refund figure.

Buying a present? Check the dates before personalising it

Gift returns deserve particular attention. The online returns page describes them as within 28 days of purchase, rather than receipt, and eligible for a gift card only. That differs from its ordinary returns wording, so clarify the applicable deadline and route if the present will sit wrapped for a while.

The same page now advertises festive returns for online purchases made on or after 6 November 2026, accepted until 15 January 2027, with the rest of the standard policy applying. At our 4 November check, that starting date was still ahead. Meanwhile, the separate refund-policy page retained festive dates for 2025–26. Confirm the current arrangement for your purchase date; do not assume an order placed today receives the extension.

Kiltane also excludes personalised items, such as embroidered pieces, from its stated exchange or refund offer unless faulty. Personalisation is therefore worth choosing only once the recipient’s preferences are settled. These are the merchant’s published conditions, not an assessment of your statutory rights.

Can you contact customer care?

The contact page lists customercare@kiltane.com, 0131 357 9460 and a contact form. It says the team is available Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm GMT. We have not tested response times or problem resolution. Quote the exact product, order date and question if you need help with sizing, a delivery deadline or conflicting policy wording.

Our verdict

Kiltane is worth shortlisting if its knitwear-led range matches your taste and you are comfortable checking garment details before spending. Small accessories offer a different budget from the larger cashmere pieces, but postage and optional extras still matter. For a broader casual-clothing shopping comparison, our Crew Clothing review covers a separate retailer; check its current terms before ordering there too.

The main reservations are practical: ambiguous express-delivery timing, paid postal returns, gift-specific wording and inconsistent festive dates across policy pages. Browse with those questions in mind, keep the tags attached while deciding, and confirm anything time-sensitive. Piglington would happily admire the scarf first — but would read the return deadline before reaching for the gift wrap.
