Yards Store is worth a browse if your idea of a wardrobe refresh involves interesting trainers, a roomy pair of trousers and a jacket with a bit of character. It brings several menswear labels together in one shop, with physical stores listed in Manchester and Sheffield. The selection has personality; the returns wording needs more patience.
This is a desk-based review of its UK website, checked on 9 October 2026. We have not worn the clothes, ordered a parcel or tested its customer service. Our judgement covers the shopping information available before buying, including some policy differences that deserve a direct question.
What sort of shop is Yards Store?
Yards describes itself as an independent menswear and lifestyle retailer. The website groups clothing, footwear and accessories, with brands including Carhartt WIP, Gramicci, New Balance and Karhu. There is a mix of everyday casual clothing, workwear-inspired pieces and trainers, rather than one house style repeated across the rails.
That may suit someone who enjoys choosing between different labels without opening a dozen websites. It is less helpful if you want every garment to follow one familiar fit. A medium from one brand should not be assumed to match a medium from another, and the photographs cannot tell us how a fabric feels or wears.
Read the fit notes before choosing a size
The Frizmworks Twill Balloon Pants page gives a useful example. It describes a wide balloon leg, a deliberately short length and a drawstring waistband. It also calls the fit small and suggests going up a size for the waist. That is the retailer’s guidance for this particular item, not a sizing rule for the whole shop.
If the shape appeals, ask for waist and length measurements and compare them with trousers you already like. With footwear, confirm the size convention and the exact model before ordering. It is easier to settle those questions beforehand than to discover that a second size means another paid return.
How do the prices and delivery costs add up?
At our check, both the Frizmworks trousers and the Karhu Mestari Tea / Lichen trainers were displayed at £95. These are dated examples, not promises about today’s stock or a claim that Yards is cheapest. Compare the exact colour and size elsewhere, then compare the delivered total.
The UK delivery page lists standard postage at £3.95, with free standard delivery on orders over £50. Its wording does not say that exactly £50 qualifies. Check the basket rather than adding something unwanted just to chase the threshold. Oversized items and large orders may attract extra charges, according to the same page.
Yards lists a three-to-five-business-day standard service and a £4.95 express service taking one to two business days. Next-working-day delivery is £9.95, with a stated 2pm order cut-off; Saturday delivery is £15.95, with a 2pm Friday cut-off. These are advertised service timings, not arrival dates we have verified. Bank holidays can cause delays, so confirm the available service for your address if a particular day matters.
Returns are the main point to clarify
Ordinary returns are not free. The main delivery-and-returns page says to request a return within 14 days of receiving the goods, using the returns portal. The refund policy and FAQ instead say the goods must reach Yards within 14 days. Those are different deadlines when a parcel has to travel back.
The pages describe credit notes for goods received after 14 days, up to 28 days; the main page says those notes last 12 months. The FAQ also mentions deducting £4 in initial UK carriage from a non-faulty refund. Ask which deadline, return postage charge and delivery deduction apply to your order, including one that qualified for free outbound delivery. The published wording does not give a simple, consistent answer.
Yards asks for unworn, unwashed items with tags and original packaging. For trainers, it specifically asks for outer packaging to protect the shoe box from tape and labels. Keep proof of posting. The refund policy generally gives seven days for processing after receipt, while the FAQ asks shoppers to allow up to seven days; we have not tested that turnaround.
There is another mismatch for faulty or incorrect arrivals: the main page asks for photographs and comments through the portal within 72 hours, while the refund policy says to make contact within seven days. Report a problem promptly and ask the team to confirm the return route and postage arrangements. These are the retailer’s published instructions, not deadlines we have independently endorsed.
Can you get help before ordering?
The contact page provides a form and says customer service runs Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. It aims to answer enquiries within 24 hours and offers live chat during office working hours. The website also lists info@yardsstore.com and 01606 359100. Those are useful routes for a measurement or policy question; a response target does not establish how well an individual enquiry will be handled.
Is Yards Store worth a closer look?
Yes, for shoppers who like a considered mix of casual menswear and trainers and are willing to check each label’s fit. The product notes can help narrow a shortlist, and the published UK delivery choices make it possible to compare costs before paying. For a different approach to casual clothing, our Crew Clothing review looks at a single-brand retailer.
Our hesitation is the inconsistent returns guidance, especially with paid return postage. Choose the item, get any missing measurements and settle the refund questions before buying. Piglington would happily rummage through the rails; he would keep the shoe box in one piece.
